Citation:

On 27 September 1948, Rifleman Bhadra Bahadur Thapa was the Bren gunner of No. 1 section of a patrol sent to Bhed area to intercept the enemy. The patrol was suddenly subjected to enemy heavy automatic close range fire from three directions.

After the first attack was repulsed, Rifleman. Thapa realised that his section commander had been surrounded by the enemy. He immediately reorganised his section and counter-attacked the enemy, killing two of them. In spite of heavy enemy fire, Rifleman. Bhadra Bahadur went on firing at the enemy to cover the final withdrawal of the patrol. When he was sure that all men of his patrol had withdrawn to safety, he crawled out of his post through intense enemy fire, thus displaying courage and devotion to duty of a very high order.
