Point 5770 Top, at a height of 18930 feet, in Jammu & Kashmir was occupied by the enemy who was constantly harassing the Indian troops through observation and small arms fire. Sepoy Tsewang Morup volunteered for route opening to the Top under the command of an officer. Route opening involved crevasse ridden vertical ascent of 1800 feet besides surmounting and overhang of50 metres with a gradient of approximately 125 degrees. The furing of rope for ascent towards top was carried out over a period of three days over vertical rock face, cornices, overhang and avlanche prone area and the final phase of rope fixing was completed on 27 June by 1400 hours.
Undaunted by devastating enemy artillery and small arms fire, Sepoy Tsewang Morup along with the assault team successfully climbed the Top and assaulted the enemy sangars. Firing from the hip and lobbing hand grenades, the team cleared the sangars. Totally surprised by the bold act and dare devilry of the assault team, the enemy ran helter-skelter. Sepoy Morup, shot down two enemy soldiers with deadly burst from his personal weapon. However, four enemy personnel from another sangar engaged the assault team with automatic weapons. With utter disregard to his personal safety, Sepoy Morup, along with two other team members, charged towards the farthest sangar and in the ensuing hand-to-hand fight silenced the enemy resistance and captured the strategic post in broad daylight by 1600 hours. The team not inly recovered arms and ammunition but also four dead bodies of the enemy, Sepoy Tsewang Morup displayed valour, conspicuous act of inspiring bravery, unflinching dedication and mental robustness in the face of the enemy.
